LifeSpring Africa: Unlocking Burundi’s Regenerative Agriculture Potential

Burundi’s economy is deeply rooted in agriculture, which accounts for over 40% of GDP and supports more than 85% of the population. Yet national studies show that over 50% of arable land is degraded due to soil erosion, nutrient depletion and overcultivation. As a result, crop yields for staples like beans, maize and potatoes remain far below regional averages—sometimes up to 40% lower. Regenerative agriculture offers a proven path forward, increasing yields by 20–40% while reducing input costs by up to 30% when farmers switch to organic soil amendments and compost-based systems.

This is where LifeSpring Africa sees transformative potential. By bringing high-quality compost, biofertilisers and soil-recovery blends to Burundi, we aim to help farmers rebuild their soils and restore long-term productivity. Research across East Africa shows that every 1% increase in soil organic matter can boost water retention by up to 20,000 litres per hectare, dramatically improving drought resilience—a critical need as Burundi experiences more frequent climate shocks. Better soil health means stronger harvests, higher incomes and more stability for rural households.

LifeSpring Africa is committed to contributing to Burundi’s economic growth by supporting farmers with regenerative inputs, technical training and waste-to-value partnerships that keep value within local communities. By regenerating soils, we help regenerate livelihoods. Our expansion is not just a business decision—it is an investment in Burundi’s agricultural future, food security and the prosperity of millions who depend on the land.
